A Facebook and Instagram connection is not a friend; you should never trust them. Because you have texted with a person for three or six months does not mean you have a friendship. Come on, we are human here, and there is no room for digital in the friendship category. More so, unidentified stranger. 

Anyone can be behind the profile; social sites do not require identification. Please do not imagine you can tell if a profile is real or fake. The flimsy ones, sure, but not all. Romance scams are a multi-million dollar-a-year criminal business. Those scammers are good at creating fake profiles. However, the red flag is always their refusal to have a live video call. 

One of the reasons love scammers are successful is the lack of action on the victim's part. Victims get sucked into a digital relationship hard and quickly. Common sense flies out the window, and everything becomes an affair of the heart. 

Do yourself a favor and confirm that the person is the face in the photos. A simple five-minute video call can save you thousands, not to mention a broken heart.
